The Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) bill, which was recently passed by the Indian Parliament, has received the President’s assent. This law aims to safeguard the privacy of Indian citizens by imposing penalties of up to Rs 250 crore on entities for misusing or failing to protect individuals’ digital data. Companies handling user data are required to protect it, report personal data breaches to the Data Protection Board (DPB), and the bill gives users the right to correct their personal data. The DPDP bill also establishes a Data Protection Board of India to address grievances related to personal data privacy.
