A 12-year-old boy in Kozhikode, Kerala, is critically ill with amoebic meningoencephalitis, a rare and often fatal brain infection caused by amoeba in contaminated water. This marks the third case since May, following the deaths of a five-year-old girl in Malappuram and a 13-year-old girl in Kannur. The boy is being treated at Baby Memorial Hospital, where the infection was swiftly identified. The Health Department urges caution, advising against bathing in stagnant water and ensuring proper chlorination in swimming pools and theme parks. The disease, with a high mortality rate, presents symptoms like fever, headache, vomiting, and seizures.
