An alert track maintainer, Pradeep Shetty, averted a potential train mishap on the Mumbai-Mangaluru Konkan Railway Corporation (KRCL) network by detecting a weld failure in the rails between Innanje and Padubidri in Udupi district early on May 26. Shetty noticed the defect around 2:25 a.m. and promptly informed officials. Two trains, Netravathi Express and Panchaganga Express, were scheduled to pass the faulty stretch shortly after. Restoration measures were quickly implemented, and the track was deemed fit for operation by 5:58 a.m. Shetty was awarded ₹25,000 for his vigilance.
