Rafael Grossi, Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), stressed to Japan’s government the importance of transparency regarding the ongoing release of treated radioactive wastewater at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant. Grossi, visiting Japan for the first time since the discharge began, offered support for increasing Japan’s nuclear capacity. He will inspect the discharge facility and meet with local residents to address concerns. Additionally, Grossi pledged IAEA cooperation in managing radioactive soil from Fukushima’s decontamination efforts, aiming for a final disposal plan by 2045.
