In a setback for the Left Democratic Front (LDF), Anto Antony of the United Democratic Front (UDF) clinched victory in the Pathanamthitta Lok Sabha seat, securing a margin of 66,119 votes. With 39.28% of the total 9.21 lakh votes polled, Antony outpaced CPI(M) leader T.M. Thomas Isaac, who garnered 32.79% of the votes. Despite hopes for consolidation, the LDF couldn’t maintain its previous momentum, especially in left-leaning bastions like Konni and Aranmula. Antony’s victory, maintaining a stronghold since 2009, marks a deviation from recent trends favoring the left coalition in the region.
