The United Nations’ political chief, Rosemary DiCarlo, will chair a historic meeting between Afghanistan’s Taliban leaders and representatives from 25 countries in Doha. This marks the first direct engagement with the Taliban, focusing on peace, adherence to international law, and human rights, including women’s rights. Despite criticisms for excluding Afghan women, DiCarlo emphasized that women’s rights will be a constant agenda item. The discussions aim to address governance inclusivity, human rights violations, terrorism, and narcotics.
