United Nations compounds across Asia, including offices in Bangkok, Tokyo, Beijing, Kathmandu, and Kabul, observed a minute’s silence and lowered the UN flag to half-mast in memory of colleagues killed in Gaza during the Israel-Hamas conflict. The UN agency for supporting Palestinians (UNRWA) reported that more than 100 of its employees had died in the Gaza Strip since the start of the war. The solemn events come after the world body reported “a significant number of deaths and injuries” in strikes on a facility in Gaza. The Israel-Hamas conflict has resulted in a devastating toll on both Palestinian and Israeli civilians.
