India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI) has extended its reach to Paris, with the flagship store of Galeries Lafayette on Haussmann Boulevard now accepting UPI payments. This milestone supports Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of globalizing UPI, an instant payment system developed by NPCI in 2016. The launch, following a successful introduction at the Eiffel Tower, was initiated by Indian Ambassador Jawed Ashraf in the presence of Galeries Lafayette’s CEO and Lyra Group’s Chairman. As Paris prepares for the 2024 Olympics, this initiative aims to facilitate transactions for Indian visitors and highlights UPI’s growing role as a global digital payment solution.
