The Biden administration is cooperating with the Indian government to hold accountable those involved in a foiled plot to kill Khalistani separatist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun on American soil. Nikhil Gupta, an Indian national, was charged for his role in the plot. US federal prosecutors allege that Gupta, in collaboration with an Indian government employee, planned to pay an assassin $100,000 for the assassination. Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia Donald Lu stated during a Congressional hearing that the US is urging India to swiftly and transparently investigate the matter and ensure justice is served. Congressional inquiries into potential sanctions similar to those applied in other cases are also being discussed.
