Voltas, a Tata Group-owned home appliance manufacturer, is reevaluating plans to produce compressors locally, considering partnerships with Japanese or South Korean firms after a previous attempt with China’s Highly International faced regulatory hurdles. With an investment of over Rs 1,300 crore, Voltas aims to enhance manufacturing capabilities, including compressors, and broaden its product range beyond air conditioners. The company plans to invest Rs 350 crore in compressor production and Rs 500 crore in immediate AC manufacturing in Chennai, with additional investment over the next 4-5 years. Voltas aims to transform into a comprehensive home appliance brand, diversifying from its AC-centric identity.
