West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced the release of Rs 293 crore to 2.1 lakh farmers impacted by adverse weather during the Rabi season. This is in addition to Rs 2,900 crore already disbursed under the ‘Krishak Bandhu (Natun)’ scheme to 1.05 crore farmers and tenants. The assistance is part of the ‘Bangla Shasya Bima’ crop insurance scheme, where the state covers the entire premium. Since 2019, Rs 3,133 crore has been distributed to affected farmers under this scheme, aimed at providing financial aid and ensuring social security for farmers’ families in case of untimely deaths.
