Starting December, WhatsApp chat backups on Android will use Google Account cloud storage, marking a shift from the current system. Initially rolling out to WhatsApp Beta users, this change will apply to all users in the subsequent months. Backups will continue until the user’s Google Account storage is full, requiring space management for further backups. Google provides 15GB of free storage across services like Google Drive, Gmail, and Google Photos. This alignment aims to offer a consistent backup experience on Android while leveraging Google’s complimentary 15GB storage. Google Workspace subscribers won’t be affected by this change.
