The World Health Organization (WHO) and Eli Lilly are alerting the public about counterfeit versions of popular weight-loss and diabetes medications. Reports since 2022 reveal fake semaglutide, found in Novo Nordisk’s Wegovy and Ozempic, circulating globally. Eli Lilly warns of counterfeit tirzepatide, the active ingredient in its drugs Mounjaro and Zepbound, being sold online and via social media. The company, the sole legitimate supplier, stresses it doesn’t distribute tirzepatide to compounding pharmacies or online retailers.
