Online food delivery giant Zomato has been slapped with a tax demand and penalty order of Rs 11.82 crore for GST on export services to its overseas subsidiaries between July 2017 and March 2021. The Additional Commissioner, Central Goods and Services Tax, Gurugram, issued the order, demanding Rs 5.90 crore in GST along with a penalty of equal amount. Zomato plans to appeal the order, asserting confidence in its case’s merits. The company contends that the services provided meet export criteria under GST, supported by evidence and legal precedents, challenging the authorities’ interpretation.
