Institutional shareholder dissent in Nifty-50 firms has seen a 30% decrease from April 1 to September 30, 2023, with 44 dissenting resolutions, compared to 63 in the same period last year. This signifies a positive trend where over 20% of institutional shareholders express disagreement through negative votes. A total of 1498 resolutions saw such dissent, constituting 17.36% of all voted resolutions, a marginal increase from the previous year. Despite the decline, 96% of dissenting resolutions ultimately passed, often influenced by high promoter holding. The breakdown of voting types revealed promoters voted for the majority of resolutions (94.65%), while institutional shareholders and other public shareholders voted at 71.86% and 15.91%, respectively.
