In a significant development, 33 Naxalites, including three with a combined bounty of ₹5 lakh, surrendered before security forces in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district on May 25. The surrender, facilitated by senior police and CRPF officials, was motivated by disillusionment with Maoist atrocities on tribals and the perceived hollowness of Maoist ideology. The surrendered individuals were impressed by the police’s rehabilitation policy. Among them, two women were active in various Maoist factions. Notably, the trio with bounties were allegedly involved in previous attacks on security personnel.
