Taiwan’s defense ministry reported that within a 24-hour period on August 26, it detected 20 Chinese air force planes entering its air defense zone, including a combat drone that flew along the island’s east coast. This comes amid increased military pressure from China on Taiwan, which Beijing claims as its territory. The Chinese activity included Su-30 and J-10 fighters, anti-submarine aircraft, and a TB-001 drone that followed a track along Taiwan’s coast. The drone, known as the “twin-tailed scorpion,” is capable of high altitude, long-range missions. Japan’s defense ministry also scrambled jet fighters to monitor Chinese aircraft near Okinawa and Taiwan.
