Balraj Panwar clinched India’s inaugural quota in rowing for the Paris Olympics by claiming the third position in the men’s single scull event at the 2024 World Asian and Oceanian Olympic and Paralympic Qualification Regatta in Chungju, South Korea. Clocking 7:01.27 minutes, the 25-year-old Indian Army rower secured the quota with his impressive performance. Panwar’s achievement marks a significant milestone for Indian rowing, especially after narrowly missing out on a medal at the Asian Games in Hangzhou last year. While India failed to qualify for the men’s lightweight double sculls, Panwar’s success ensures a solitary entry in rowing at the upcoming Olympics.
