Officials from the Tamil Nadu Forest Department and Southern Railway’s Palakkad Division recently inspected railway lines passing through Madukkarai forest range in Coimbatore district. The aim was to improve safety measures for wild elephants, including assessing the need for additional underpasses to facilitate their safe passage. Currently, the Southern Railway has opened one underpass and completed another on the ‘B’ line. Discussions also focused on installing physical structures to guide elephants towards these underpasses and removing barriers along the track.
