As of June 25, 2024, Assam’s flood situation has improved with receding water levels in major rivers and decreased rainfall, reducing the number of affected people to 1.7 lakh. The Assam State Disaster Management Authority reported significant impacts in nine districts, with Karimganj (96,440 affected) and Cachar (52,400 affected) being the worst hit. The death toll from this year’s flood, landslide, and storm events has reached 40. Currently, 13,094 people are in 149 relief camps, and 641 villages remain flooded, damaging 2,273 hectares of crops. Infrastructure such as embankments, roads, and bridges has also been damaged.
