A senior Qatar Airways executive has assured an Australian Senate inquiry that the invasive gynaecological examinations of female passengers at Doha’s international airport in 2020 will not be repeated. The examinations, which involved 13 Australian women who were taken off a Qatar Airways flight to Sydney, led to Australia refusing the airline additional flights to the country. Qatar Airways Senior Vice President for Global Sales, Matt Raos, described the incident as a “one-off” and pledged the airline’s commitment to preventing any recurrence. Five of the affected women are currently suing the airline, and Raos declined to provide further details due to the ongoing legal proceedings. The incident has had diplomatic and economic repercussions, with Qatar Airways expressing surprise at Australia’s decision to reject its application for additional services.
