The Australian and International Pilots Association (AIPA), representing the majority of Qantas’s pilots, has urged Qantas Airways Chairman Richard Goyder to resign following a series of scandals. AIPA President Captain Tony Lucas stated that confidence in Goyder and the board had been entirely lost, asserting the need for a culture reset at Qantas. The call for Goyder’s resignation comes amidst allegations of lobbying against rival Qatar Airways, an antitrust lawsuit, and illegal termination of 1,700 ground staff. Qantas, facing criticism from various stakeholders, including lawmakers and unions, has yet to respond to the demand. Goyder, in office since 2018, is not up for reelection until November. The airline’s shares have suffered a 1.3% dip amid ongoing challenges, including persistently high oil prices impacting fuel costs.
