Honda and General Motors (GM) announced their plan to launch a driverless taxi service in Tokyo in 2026. The project, co-developed with self-driving car operator Cruise, aims to provide an innovative mobility experience and address societal issues, including the shortage of taxi and bus drivers in Japan. The service will feature driverless vehicles with a spacious cabin, accommodating six passengers. Users can book rides through a smartphone app, and the project aims to launch dozens of autonomous cars in Tokyo in early 2026, with plans to expand to a fleet of 500 and areas outside central Tokyo.
