India officially launched the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) at the Eiffel Tower, embodying Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of globalizing UPI. Modi hailed the move as a significant step towards making UPI a global phenomenon, encouraging digital payments and strengthening international ties. UPI, initiated in 2016, integrates multiple bank accounts into a single mobile application, facilitating seamless fund routing and merchant payments. The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) collaborates with French e-commerce platform Lyra to ensure UPI acceptance in France, starting with the iconic Eiffel Tower. The service is set to expand to other merchants in France and Europe.
