India has lifted the ban on onion exports, introducing conditions such as a minimum export price and export duty. The decision, taken after discussions with stakeholders and monitoring global markets, aims to boost farmers’ incomes, particularly in key onion-producing regions like Maharashtra, ahead of Lok Sabha elections. The move comes following a ban last year to stabilize retail prices amid production concerns. Consumer Affairs Secretary Nidhi Khare assures that prices will remain stable, with the decision reflecting comfortable supply levels and stable prices.
