A magnitude 5.6 earthquake occurred near West Timor, Indonesia, as reported by the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ). The quake struck at a depth of 10 km. Just days earlier, a magnitude 6.4 earthquake hit East Nusa Tenggara province. The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) confirmed the event. The Indonesian geological agency (BMKG) assessed the recent quake at 6.3, stating no tsunami threat. While strongly felt in East Nusa Tenggara’s cities, no immediate damages were reported. Indonesia, situated on the active “Pacific Ring of Fire,” experiences high seismic activity due to multiple tectonic plates.
