Tamil Nadu Governor R.N. Ravi visited the Sri Kodandaramaswami Temple in Chennai and expressed concern about an “invisible fear” and apprehensions among the priests and temple staff. In contrast to the festive atmosphere in the rest of the country during the Pran Pratishtha of Ram Lalla, the Governor claimed a sense of “acute repression” at the temple premises in Chennai. This observation follows the rejection by the Tamil Nadu government and the Minister for Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments of Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s accusation that the State had imposed a ban on special pujas in temples on the day of the Ayodhya temple consecration ceremony.
