SoftBank founder Masayoshi Son is reportedly seeking $100 billion for a chip venture named “Izanagi” to compete with Nvidia and supply essential semiconductors for artificial intelligence (AI). The project aims to complement Arm Holdings, SoftBank’s chip design unit, creating an AI chip powerhouse. Son envisions Izanagi as one of the largest AI investments, surpassing Microsoft’s bet on OpenAI. The project, named after the Japanese god of creation and life, includes the initials for artificial general intelligence (AGI). While funding and technology details are pending, Son is actively exploring ways to strengthen Arm’s AI market presence and compete with Nvidia.
