The Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP), in alliance with the BJP, secured a sweeping victory in Nagaland’s urban local body (ULB) elections. Held for the first time in 20 years with 33% seats reserved for women, the elections saw NDPP winning 152 seats, independents 56, and BJP 25. Notably, 102 women candidates emerged victorious, marking a significant milestone. The elections, marred by boycott calls in some districts, followed legal battles over reservation quotas, culminating in the Supreme Court’s directive for the polls in 2023.
