Russian authorities have designated Dmitry Muratov, a Nobel Peace Prize laureate and newspaper editor, as a foreign agent under a law that targets individuals and organizations receiving funding from abroad. This move is part of Russia’s ongoing efforts to suppress critics and independent journalism. Muratov, the chief editor of Novaya Gazeta, known for its investigative reporting and criticism of the Kremlin, won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2021. He later auctioned his Nobel medal for $103.5 million to aid refugee children from Ukraine. As Russia enforces strict laws against criticism of its military actions and targets opposition figures, many journalists from Novaya Gazeta have launched a new publication, Novaya Gazeta Europe, based in Latvia
