At VMRDA Central Park in Visakhapatnam, the ancient art of karrasamu, a form of stick fencing, comes to life as a diverse group practices its precise techniques. Led by coach BA Lakshman Dev of Baldev’s Indian Traditional Martial Arts, over 50 individuals, spanning ages five to 60, train daily, showcasing the beauty and discipline of this traditional combat form. Karrasamu, deeply rooted in Andhra Pradesh’s history, evolved as a defense against thefts and robberies, gradually becoming a way of life. Lakshman, a third-generation practitioner, emphasizes its role in enhancing flexibility, focus, and overall fitness, attracting both genders and diverse age groups.
